Various contaminants, such as swimmer waste, lotions and oils can resist normal chlorination and will build up in pool water. This buildup usually occurs during hot weather and periods of heavy use, when your filter is already working overtime. "Super Chlorinating," or "Shock Treatment" will oxidize or burn up these contaminants when applied according to package directions. A Shock Treatment quickly raises the chlorine level to overcome specific contaminants for a period of 12 to 24 hours. It is best to apply Shock Treatments in the early evening, in order to enable the chemicals to work overnight and then decline to normal levels by the next day. Be sure to run your pool filter as the chemicals work overnight. And don't hesitate to call our office if you have additional questions or concerns about the safety of your pool water.
